Sunshine in Your Inbox

September 8, 2025

There are moments of sunshine all around you. This newsletter hopes to serve as an inspiration to find joy in your life each day.

In this week's Sunshine in Your Inbox, I'll share why I'm ok being late.

Better Late Than Never

Confession. I'm one of those friends who is always late by 10-15 minutes. Any friends reading already know this so it's not much of a confession to them. I have no real excuse for it. I dawdle, and then decide to put on an elaborate outfit or attempt a make up look, underestimating how long it will take. And I always expect there to be no traffic, even at 5pm. But I'll show up, looking cute, and having just enjoyed a zippy (and safe) drive to my destination.

This is the story of my life. Constantly late. Take this week's Sunday newsletter as Exhibit A. I could have stressed out about getting this out on time but instead, I accepted that it was going to be late this week and prioritized some personal joy instead. So I'm late here too, but still want to show up because I want to follow through on my commitment.

I can list numerous things that I feel late on and consider myself a late bloomer in many life areas. Sometimes these feel like failings and I think there is something inherently wrong with me because I'm late, behind, slow. Because I compare myself to others, which is so easy to do these days. But it's not some big moral failing. It's certainly not a moral failing to be late.

So why do we beat ourselves up for something that's just part of who we are?

I pose the question not to spin out about it, but consider what purpose there is to be so hard on ourselves.

I'm terrible at time! I'm going to be late. But I'll be there! With my friends, in my business, in life, I'll get there eventually! I always have. I believe it's about showing up, not about the constraints around showing up.

What is something that you beat yourself up over that is just how you are? And what if, you acted cool as a cucumber about it instead? Even if you have to convince yourself a little that everything is chill. Perhaps you can shift from the negative self-talk and do something good for yourself instead.

My process is my process. I'm going to dawdle. I'm going to take a long time to figure out some life stuff. And chances are, I'm going to prioritize joy and self-care before I prioritize what life schedule I ought to follow.

Maybe we're not all meant to be on time! And if you're someone I know and we're making plans, consider adding an extra few minutes of buffer time, just in case.

Thanks for reading!
