Sunshine in Your Inbox

August 31, 2025

There are moments of sunshine all around you. This newsletter hopes to serve as an inspiration to find joy in your life each day.

In this week's Sunshine in Your Inbox, I'll share my experience with how I pull myself out of the hard times and start going after my joy.

No One is Coming to Save You

Sheesh! Way to hit folks with the hard truth on a Sunday morning! This is meant to be Sunshine in Your Inbox and we start with that?

It's a hard lesson to learn but the thing about joy and living a joyful life is that sometimes it gets off track and we find ourselves in pits of despair. And when we're in those times where life is feeling extra difficult, we have to figure out how to pull ourselves back out. Our therapists can only help so much. It's up to us. But we've got this!

Here's how I move through the difficult work.

First, I have a bit of a cry about it. This is an important step! Do not skip it!

After that, I start assessing where I am. It can feel overwhelming when it all feels heavy, but something like the wheel of life can help. It provides you with life categories like health, career, finances, relationships, etc. In my assessment, I take an honest look at where I currently am and where I want to be, and I identify the gaps, the blocks, the feelings behind the blocks, and some small actions I can take now. The goal here isn't to overwhelm, but face something head-on so I can start making shifts. If I don't know where to begin, I won't begin at all. So identifying things this way helps create clarity for action.

It's hard work, but so is ignoring it.

As someone who works from home, social interactions aren't happening like they used to when I worked in an office. And it's an area that 1. brings me a greater sense of connection and 2. as an extrovert, I feel more energized from time spent with others. So working from home, this is a major gap.

Spending more time with friends is helpful, but in order to feel like I'm not relying solely on them, I am also finding other regular opportunities for time with people, like a fitness class and volunteering. These two things will help start to replenish where I'm at a deficit and equip me better for climbing out of the harder times.

I start to find ways to feel just a tiny bit better, make progress on my goals, and open the doors for more joy.

I don't have to solve everything in my life at once, but I can start making some strides towards making things just a tiny bit better, day-by-day. And the only person who can do that is me. But I'm strong, resourced, and worth it. And so are you. I promise.

You've got this, my friend.

In this week's Sunshine in Your Inbox, I'll share why I'm ok being late. Better Late Than Never Confession. I'm one of those friends who is always late by 10-15 minutes.
