๐ Sunshine in Your Inbox
There are moments of sunshine all around you. This newsletter hopes to serve as an inspiration to find joy in your life each day.
In this week's Sunshine in Your Inbox, we'll reflect on some key ways to shake things up and get in touch with our joy.
Getting Unstuck from That Miserable Feeling
What happens when you aren't tapped into your joy? Besides being a miserable c-word ๐, you probably aren't showing up for yourself, your loved ones, or your community in a meaningful way.
But when we feel overwhelmed, how do we break free from the feelings that are heavy and lean into joy? Practice, baby!!
We begin building our resiliency through joyful practices. Start adding easy, accessible joy that you can reach for when you are feeling kinda shit.
Let's look at this through the 8 Elements of Joyful Living.
- Authenticity - In what instances are you unapologetically you? Is it singing in the car, speaking your unfiltered truth, bringing bubble wands wherever you go?
- Connection to Whole Self - What's something your younger self would relish doing today? What was your favorite food as a kid? What do you want to experience in your future?
- Optimism - What do you feel hopeful about? Is it that you will definitely get ice cream this week? You don't have to dream big if that feels scary. Look to the joys you can create!
- Playfulness - Who says, at age 43, you can't add My Little Pony temporary tattoos to your arms? What are some things that make you feel playful, curious, and light? Stickers, candy, mismatched socks?
- Imagination - Creativity doesn't only mean art or music. You can got to Zillow.com, pick a fancy house in a fancy neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio and imagine your life living there. That's the kind of imaginative creativity that breeds joy. Get creative with your style, the songs you sing in the shower, the nicknames you give your pets.
- Celebration - How did you celebrate ordinary moments from this week that felt like a win to you? If things are a struggle and you did tasks of self-care, then that's a win and you can feel proud. Don't disregard small wins, ever! That's a threat!
- Novelty - Our brains love routine, but they also love the unexpected. Be open to something different. Change up the shower routine (aaahhhh!!! She can't be serious!!). I am. Let's all wash ourselves in a different order. Why does that feel like chaos? Because a little discomfort can feel that way. But maybe there's joy to be had in that chaotic discomfort? Novelty can be an out-of-sequence shower. It doesn't have to be skydiving.
- Bold Self-Expression - What holds you back from wearing something bold? What if you tried it out at home? What if you shared your unique perspective with someone? Did you know, men on the internet share their opinions all the time? Babe, why not you? Oh, and if you want a safe place to practice, feel free to share some bold, juicy opinion you have with me! The more unhinged, the better.
Well, that got a bit wordy. Hopefully I didn't add to the overwhelm! But these are areas you can consider to flex that joy muscle when you are feeling like it's a challenge to step out of the miserable and overwhelming feeling of malaise and back to your Big Joy Energy!! Take each idea step-by-step.
