๐ŸŒž Sunshine in Your Inbox

There are moments of sunshine all around you. This newsletter hopes to serve as an inspiration to find joy in your life each day.

In this week's Sunshine in Your Inbox, we'll talk about joy in a scary world.

Finding Joy in a Scary World

Oof. What can I say right now that will feel like some sunshine in your inbox when the world feels scary? I never want to make light of what is happening around us nor ask you to simply ignore it. I do believe that going after our joy is vital to not only living our fullest lives, but also connecting to and caring for our communities.

Today, I want to remind you that there are things in this world that can help when we are feeling overwhelmed and scared

Find Art

Artists have a magical gift to take deep feelings and turn them into magnificent works. They can express beauty, sorrow, joy, and fear in the most moving ways. Find art that can serve as a reminder of the beauty that humans create. Extra bonus points if you find the silliest art that exudes pure joy!

Be with people

Sense of community and comradery is invaluable. Go have a laugh with friends, go to the movies, sit in the park. Be around people who are out living their lives and feel into what it's like to share the same experiences with others.

Read The Book of Joy

This book has been a lovely and inspiring book to read. It's a book about joy from the perspective of the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. It's wonderfully written and shares their ideas on the value of joy and reminders of how we can move through challenges. The chapter Despair: The World is in Such Turmoil talks a lot about hope. "Despair can come from deep grief, but it can also be a defense against the risks of bitter disappointment and shattering heartbreak. Resignation and cynicism are easier, more self-soothing postures that do not require the raw vulnerability and tragic risk of hope. To choose hope is to step firmly forward into the howling wind, baring one's chest to the elements, knowing that in time, the storm will pass," Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

I could add many number of reminders, but you are the person who knows you best. What do you need right now? What can you do that will keep you grounded and connected to your joy?

And because I don't believe we should ever cease to doing these things, I hope you keep choosing joy, sharing joy, and celebrating joy!
